UPDATE - As of Friday I have used up my entire bottle of Melafix (good thing its been a week eh?)

Pompey (the fighting fish) is becoming more energetic than he was last week, swimming about a lot more and trying to explore.

None of the fish have attacked him, nor do they try to (even though hes in a wee plastic box/sickbay =P)
His injuries have lost their ugly red color too; I'm hoping the worst parts over and now he can start to fully heal.
If I see any sign of trouble I'll re-post on this page; thank you everyone for giving me advice, it was really greatly appreciated!

Good to hear he is on the mend :good:

thats great news! Try and post a pic every few days so we can see the recovery. And also any signs of things turning downhill. Hes certainly not out of the woods yet but that is a good sign :good:
cheers

UPDATE - I have decided to let him back into the main tank, as (amazingly) his wound has closed over almost completely!

All I can see at the moment is a white line across his head (where the injury was). Once I've finished cleaning the tank I'll post pictures =)

I wouldn't have let him out so soon, especially with all the advice you have been given but its your choice.
hope he pulls through 100%

I agree, would have kept him isolated until the wound appears to have completely cleared up and then give him another week to be sure.

Well there were 2 factors influencing my decision:

1 - his wound is virtually sealed (as of this morning for definite)

2 - I've kinda run out of salts/Melafix =P

Anyways, I have been keeping a very close eye on all tank activity, and he hasn't been touched by any of the other fish or nipped/bullied in any way. =)

If the wound is closed I see no problem with releasing him back into the tank. Just keep an eye on the site and make sure no redness or white fuzz appears. Glad he mended so quickly. Just do some extra waterchanges for a week or 2.
cheers
