Fighting Fish (Betta)

hi all

i just bought a lovely betta its a fighter fish

well what i would like to knw is i can have more than 1 fighter. as im looking for another 3 or will i get trouble

Male or female? If it's male and you want more males then your asking for trouble because they are called fighters for a reason. Males will fight till both are dead. If you going to have 4 males together you would need a 4ft tank just for them because it is possible but they need enough territory each. Not meaning to sound rude but IMO if you want 4 males you need a big tank or they will fight for deffinite but just because they will have enough territory doesn't mean they won't fight at all.

I've seen people with 4 males together in a 4ft tank without them fighting, but maybe they just had good luck. So it is possible but it's touch 'n' go so it's not worth the risk.

4 foot tank to stop the betta fighting its guna be more like 40 foot if they find each other in a 4 foott theres no room to swim away and one will get hurt or worse killed.
like said it they are males no unless you divide the tank and then they need atleast 3g each but 5 is better. if they are females and your tank it 10g + then yes 4 willl be fine atleast 3 are needed.


males normally have long fins females shorts fins. when it flares dose the flare you under its mouth or just on the sides? no 1m 1f whill kill or hurt each other you can oly keep them together when breeding and you need to do alot of reading first.

The only way to have multiple males in one tank is to divide the tank into separate sections with dividers and plastic mesh .

You cannot keep males and females together as adults becuse they will fight, and the male will chase the females and stress them badly trying to mate.

Either keep one male in a 5 gal+ tank of his own, OR divide a larger tank into 5 gal sections for multiple males.

If you want afree swimming group of bettas then you need to get all females ( who are just as pretty ) and a group of 4+ ( 6-8 usually works well )is reccomended to curb agression and help establish a stable pecking order.

How big is your tank and is there anything else in it?

my tank is only 3 feet long.

o well ill just keep the 1, also is a fighter ok with guppies as they ok so far but just asking

A fighter could get on ok with guppies my male got on with the guppies but we could have had good luck as people say they shouldn't be kept together.

No a fighter isn't ok with guppies as any bright colours will, you could say 'make him angry' my male got on with the guppies but he did that after killing all 5 of our females after the females were gone no-one could steal anyones girl.

you cant really say no quite a few work perfectly fine its just up to the betta i had one that killed a guppy andanother that lived with guppys and later on endler with no problem.

I did change that as after i realized you can't really say no as ours lived with the guppies without hurting them but before he got on with them he killed our females.
