Ok, I've been thinking a lot about this and have a few questions...

-What is involved exactly with fighting bettas?

-What are the training methods?

-What happens to the loser?

-What happens to the winner?

-How do you even distinguish this (winner and loser)?

-Do they destroy each other, or is there limited fin/body damage?

I've been thinking about this and I want people from Asia to respond as I know this is part of their tradition and culture (in some sects). I wish I could take part in it, but unfortunately its illegal here in the states... Maybe I'll take a trip overseas and witness it first hand.

Thanks for the info in advanced.

Thanks for that :good:

And also, thanks for not jumping down my throat about asking about it

I'm purely interested for education purposes, what's wrong with learning of common practices in other cultures and societies. From what I've heard, some of these "fighters" are treated better than some fish kept by hobbyists... who knows, that's part of the reason for the thread ;).

You have to remember though that bettas used for fighting are very different to those kept as pets, both in nature and in nurture, which is part of the reason why two VTs chucked together will probably end in the death of both. When you look at pictures of actual fighters, you immediately can see the differences- stockier, more muscular, hard scales, shorter fins...

Yea, I'm referring to those types of fighters. I know 2 VTs aren't the same thing. I wasn't even talking about them.

I know that ;) I was merely pointing out that comparisons between fighters and fish kept by hobbyists (as in conditions kept in, for instance) aren't really applicable as they might as well be two different species.

Oh ok, I was like "did I mention using VTs or something ". But yea, I just love learning all I can about different fish and different cultural practices. I'm an info hog to say the least. I spend countless ours researching and thinking of "stupid" questions, though IMO a stupid question is one that if you just took some time to think, then you would come up with an answer yourself, if you really don't know, then no question is stupid. I think that all made sense :good:
