Back again for some more annoying questions no doubt (apologies in advance)
Putting together my new 155L tank and began ordering a few products. First question is are plant substrate products like this necessary? If so can someone give me a quick explanation what its used for (simply soil for the plants?...) and how much would be needed to cover my 4ft x 1.2ft tank (and how deep should it be).. I would like it fairly lightly planted.

Just wondering if anyone has any previous experience with them? or any previous experience with this filter?.. I understand its far from top of the line but for a few months until I get a little money together Im hoping it will do the job
