ok so ive got the thing setup jus about but now i have more time i wanna re position the tubes better.

my question, how do you turn it off??

do i jus unplug it or do i need to close some valves?

also, what happens if theres a powercut? wont the filter keep siphoning water and empty the tank?

sorry mods, i kno this should be in hardware but i need the answers asap so please could you wait till i get them before moving it? :)

Just unplug it. Only need to close valves if you want to do maintenance and disconnect the pipes.

Nope, it should be a sealed air tight container, so there will just be a lack of flow. However, knowing how bad the older fluval cannisters are, I wouldn't put any large amount of money on it still sealing in many years to come :/

yea i gave up waiting and tried it. thanx anyway mate.

as for the water tightness.

i dont kno what the old ones where like but this one has about 10 quick loose-bolts holding it shut.

im sure i read you once said it only had sponges too.

well you can fill all the middle of the baskets with what ever you want aswell as the foam round the outside so its not bad at all.

or did you mean you dont get biological filtration in the box with it? cos i do have to buy what ever else i want.

open to suggestions there too.

The point is that considering the size of the tank it is aimed at, it holds a far smaller amount of biological media than comparable filters (the big Eheim). While the Eheim holds far more overall media, most of it is just sponge.

This was evidenced by the flvual taking an extra two days (13) over the Eheim (11) to process 40 ppm ammonia, though the ehim is a little more effective at filtering out mechanically.
