I've heard rumors that a high percentage of Female bettas that never are bred die from egg impaction. If this is True and you dont want to breed bettas (because your a novice at it), is there any way to prevent impaction?

female bettas dont die from egg inpaction as far as i know... they arent birds :}they do get bigg and eggy if they are well feed and cared for, but then if they are not bred they realese the eggs, then usually turn around and promptly eat the, thats why you dont see eggs floatin around, if people have had females and they got big and puffy then died they might not have ben eggy they might have been sick, fish can gett all bloated from diese fungas internal paricits, if they do get all puffy its usually a sign that they are very sickly and might die.

but many people keep soroitys of female and never breed them, i have female tht are just pets and are not going to be bred. :good:

it can happen, but its not particularly common. and although females kept together will get eggy if well fed, they do not usually get to a severe condition, unless put with a male. if you are particularly worried about it, then things like reducing amounts fed, or only feeding on alternate days, should help prevent them egging up in the first place. but i have one girl who has looked massively eggy for ages! and she is fine (though i might try and breed her again soon, seeing as she is so ready for it)

Yea.... it's known that eggs can crystalize inside a female and she becomes "eggbound" and it can become fatal if not "handled"..... It's not common, but a select few females are prone to this.
