Feeding New Fish

When you add new fish to a tank, do you wait to feed them or do you feed them right away?

I always give them a day to settle in unless they look particularly in need of food.

Okay. Yeah I have 3 swords that Ive had 6-7 weeks now.. and they're getting big. started out at almost 2 inches long, now they're at LEAST 3, more like 3.5 inches each. Theyve been the only fishies in a 29 gallon tank, I bought 3 platys today and want to introduce them in to the life...

Yeah, I agree with PrimeOrdeal, I have always left mine overnight and then feed them a little bit the next morning.

What's the thinking behind feeding them or not straight away then?
