Hello

Yesterday I got my new betta and the LFS said it will eat tropical flakes, I tried them but the fish is just spiting them out? but love the brine shrimps :) i have tried peas and cucumber will now entertain them. I don't want to give shrimps all the time, I also read the blood worms are good to give them? please can someone tell me what food they can eat as i'm getting wrong information or people telling me the opposite. Help before my fish starves.

John

he probably is eating the flakes but if they are too big he will keep spitting them out, try crushing them a little first

best not to feed frozen foods to often just once a week is fine

if your finding that he isnt touching them at all maybe get some betta specific food, tends to be a little better anyways!

and dotn worry fish can go for a ridiculously long time without food :good:

ps this is what i feed mine, it has krill in it, its already crushed up and will last ages!

Sorry I always crush them up even with my platys :) and I have only the one LFS and don't sell the betta pellets and the shop Pets at home don't know what they talking about.

theres one on Ebay

but if you cant get that then just hold off feeding him for a couple of days then try feeding him again

my very fisrt betta was fussy when it came to flake but eventually he came round to the idea after that :p

Update on my Betta feeding

Got some tetra Betta flakes and Interpet freeze dry blood worms yesterday will not eat them, but will eat frozen Brim Shrimps can't seem to buy nothing that he will eat? any suggestions.

How many times a day are you feeding him? Try the blood worm/frozen foods once every 4 - 5 days, not every day. They go mad for them.

I feed mine twice a day, a small pinch eat time. I got a good tip off this forum; only feed your fish, as much as he can eat in 2 mins x

Feed once a day but like i say will not feed only on shrimp, my other 28 gallon tank with the four platies eat twice a day not a lot only what they eat in 2 mins.

mine enjoys the freeze dried bloodworm and doesnt mind tropical flakes and also frozen bloodworm.
i tend to leave the frozen bloodworm in for about half a day as i feed them befor work.
by the time i get home my killies have also found away to get to the aswell haha
so yours might just be feeling home (original) sick.
also did you find out what they was feeding it on in the lfs?

Sad news my new Betta die this afternoon, I took it to the vets and they took a look at the fish and said it was old age and something wrong with mental heath? and have no visible signs of a illness that would of been easy recognised. As it had no spot, worms, gill infection, gold flacking. I did tell the vet all it was doing was rubbing, darting and not eating and thought i seen a couple of white spots. I kept looking at the fish day and night for some clues but really nothing i could see myself. Only had him afew days but do miss the guy :(

My bettas love hikari betta pellets and frozen bloodworms/brine shrimp. I change what I give them each day for variety and they are fine with their diet.

sorry to hear that :( he might have had some internal bacteria or parasites affecting his nervous system?

anyways RIP :-(
