I have done some research and have read the sticky on feeding and I am still confused.

I have heard that too much protien leads to bloat, but I have also heard that they are insectivores and eat crustaceans as well. Blood worms are a no no(too fatty).

So what do we feed them?

Just stick with apirulina flake or sticks and add the odd mussel, mysis, daphania or baby brineshrimp if you feel the need :D

I have a mixed mbuna community (see my sig) including labs, so I feed a mix of foods. I alternate NLS (New Life Spectrum), Hikari Gold cichlid pellets (w/a bit more protein and fat), and OSI Soft Veggie Pellets. I also give them frozen daphnia and frozen brine shrimp about once a week (alternating of course). I've found that the other fish don't really care for the brine shrimp, so the labs get the most of it, and they all love the daphnia. I think the more variety you give them the healthier they will be. Even "herbivours" need some meat in their diet.

i use tetra pro vegetable as recommend by another forumer, and my malawis like it.

I have a mixture of malawis some vegi some not i feed sera ganugreen, brine shrimp, river shrimp, frozen muscle and prawn ,shelled peas (they love these)and cucumber.
