Hello again :)

I was just wondering if anyone knows of some type of sinking food for fry? My 2 mollies and my platy seem to devour all the food and the little ones hanging out at the bottom arn't getting anything! lol. (My dalmation molly gave birth yesterday, incase you missed my thread :))

Thanks!

If you want the fry to live, put them in a seperate tank or in a breeding trap. If you don't want to do that, they will get eaten. Hikari first bites, are like tiny bits of flake [I meen, impossible to see if you just put one in] that usually sinks and the adults don't eat it.

As john says, I'd recommend getting yourself one of them hard plastic breeding traps that float on the top of your water to stop the fry getting eaten by the other fish, this way you can also feed them without worrying the others will eat it first

Unfortunatly I cant afford a trap at this time, so im going to have to keep them in the tank :(

Thanks Tropic_John - il see if I can find some tomorrow :)

if you get some of the Hikari "First Bites" , it is so powdery that the bigger fish would probably pay no attention to it. feed the big fish some flakes or whatever you normally feed, then put a tiny bit of the Hikari powder in where the fry hang out. they'll get a fair share of it.

you could also feed the big ones first then, take some tropical flake in your fingers and put your hand down close to the bottom and crush the flakes there making them sink.

Another interim option for keeping fry is almost any container that will hold water and won't release chemicals into the water. I have used everything from storage tubs to plastic beach pails. If you must resort to a non-traditional water container be sure to do lots of 50% water changes because you probably would have trouble filtering such a small container.
