is it true some fish will eat brocoli stem, do i have to blanch it first before freezing it and should uneaten pieces be removed from the tank the next day?
many thanks.

what fish have you got?

I boil it for a couple of minutes and my bristlenose loves it. I also see my angels, bolivian rams and various others have a nibble at the ....errrm, little green ball bits at the end (whatver the technical term is for them!)

only my plec kinda eats it, i think he is still unsure on what it is poor thing lol, gd thing is the little "flower" parts take long time to degrade so i clean them out every week in my water change :)

albino shark, and small clown poaches, can i put some brocoli in the freezer after boiling it?
thanks.

yep sorry i forgot to mention i freeze mine then run boiling water over it for a sec to defrost it when its time for feeding :) but i don't boil before freezing just out of bag and into freezer. I do the same for cucumber and courgette :) for some reason my plec loves the inside of a cucumber but only the outside of a courgette he's a picky #29### :D

i would probably boil it after freezing as then it defrosts it, i have also herd someone on here microwaving it to defrost not tried it my self could work :)

None of my fish will touch the stuff, I dont blame them though to be honest

I'd do one or the other (either freeze or boil) rather than both.

I have frozen left over, blanched, stalk and it comes out too soft and breaks down very quickly. Just freezing and thawing should soften it up enough for your fish, or boil for a couple of minutes if you're feeding it fresh.

Forget broccoli. It means that you would need to have some in the house. On the other hand, I feed my plecos and other vegetarians the outer leaves from my brussel sprouts whenever I have some for dinner. I just toss 2 or 2 of those leaves into their tank for each decent sized fish that I am feeding and forget them. The leaves really don't last long at all. A pleco that has never seen them before may be a bit slow to get started, but the next time they will fend off all competition to get to those leaves. Have you ever seen plecos sparring over their food?

I know you may find this hard to believe, OM, but some people like broccoli!

and some people HATE brussel sprouts....i feel the urge to throw up when i even see one :/

What's so bad about broccoli and Brussels sprouts? I'd eat a ton of those even though I'm mostly a carnivore. o_O

I love broccoli, and LOVE sprouts :) I do like veg though. I just give the fish a bit of whatever I have in really! Never thought to give them sprout leaves though, I will be trying that one! Cheers :good:
