I have bought cyclops for the first time to try it out, an they seem to be very minute.

Would they be minute enough to feed to ram fry when they become free swimming, or will they be ok for a bit later?

Cyclops might work. Baby brine is a little smaller, you may want to use that the first week or so. Also finely crushed flake food works.

From personal exp I'd go with an infusia culture as high in protein which baby rams need lots of as they are very hard to raise and if don't get enough just die , then move on to baby brine shrimp and banana worms , but good luck if going for breeding rams as they arnt easy atal lol not like most other dwarf cichlids

Fortunately the LFS has just started stocking bags of live BBS with its live food.
Mmm... my tubifex culture is doing very badly, might as well replace it with banana worms...

Well... the choice was mainly because I had a couple of pairs...
Not the most difficult though, and anyway, I have your keyholes to fall back on ;)

Infusia cultures are as easy as pie to cultivate yourself all you need is a bit a straw (the kind you find in fields and use for rabbits not the drinking kinds lol) and some old aquarium water, but true lol how are they keyholes doing now ? My last pair I kept back for myself are on eggs again laid last night ... Not many eggs though only 20-30

One of them (the male I'm guessing) tends to stay near the caves a lot of time. Not enough to say there are eggs, but it is suspicious.

They seem to have settled in, but I'm rescaping the tank slowly, so they might be a bit uneasy still, but nothing major.

They are competing with the discus for the feeding cone though :D

Thanks for the info on the infusoria Peter. Is it that simple? Anything else I would need to do?

How about rotifera? Are those any good?

just a jam jar or something to keep them in .... light say like on a window sill and also feed them a few drops of milk every week as thats there food source to keep the culture alive

depends if its fresh water rotifera then yes but if its salt water one then no avoid it .... but fresh water rotifera are a freshwater plankton and usual occur in most tanks just not in higher amounts to be noticeable as usualy live in the substrate

Ok, I'll give infusoria a go, just one last (stupid) question: can you actually see them or you have to suck up some water hoping they'll be there?

no you can see infusoria but you do have to proper look otherwise you would just think its a tub of water lmao
