Farming Bacteria

I have no wish to discourage your experimentation. I only wanted to point out that you need to consider all factors before trying to go into production.

oh, i'm not going to go into production, notime for that, and theres no way i'd be able to stop the nightmare of new tanks and no cycle advice. to buy the media, you would need to know about cycling... so it wouldn't solve anything. but getting it to work, and persuading LFS's that it's a good idea... that might help with all the fish in cycles which happen. myself included in that.

Sounds expensive, would definitely need to be run from an aquarium shop.

Instead of adding ammonia though, I would just add all the vacuum debris (including fish faecal matter) into the tank. This will then make the conditions much more like those in a working fish tank, and would give you the additional bacteria that no doubt exist in a working filter. Its still no instant fix mind.
