this sounds really silly, but im looking at my new tetra ex 600 filter and wondering how it attaches to the tank cause of the lid for the jewel tank. also, its really heavy!! will my tank take the weight?

At the back of the tank will be 2 grooves on either side where the pipework will sit (the outlet, water going into the filter on 1 side and the spraybar on the other), sorry but i dont understand what you you mean about the weight it should sit in one of the cabinets under the tank.

The tetratec EX600 is an exturnal filter. It sits below the waterline, below or to one side of the tank. It is then connected to the tank using hoses, one of which pulls water out of the tank, into the filter, the other returns the filtered water to the main tank. The filter should not be too heavy, and will be fine, positioned in the juwel stand, or off to one side, on the floor.
