Sorry to jump on your thread Twinkle, I just wanted to ask if the UV filters are really as good as they`re cracked up to be? Hubby actually considered one over the FX5 we ended up buying.
What are the advantages and disadvantages (if any) of them?
advantages:
can be used to address "specific" problems. such as an algae bloom. (though light is the cause, not the algae)
you get to boast you have one.
disadvantages:
will/can not totally treat bacterial infections. this can only be done by treating the "entire" tank at once.
bulbs are pricey, and need replaced often.
any "light leaks" will cause enormous damage to your fish.
Expensive and unneeded in an indoor aquarium.
