Hey everyone!

Just invested in an Elite 802 air pack from Maidenhead Aquatics and the external air pump is as noisy as could possibly be - I wouldn't even put it in the room that I sleep in and i'm quite a heavy sleeper - that's how noisy it is!!!! Ironically on the box it states "quiet" - in a nuclear war maybe!

Question is - any recommendations for quiet external air filters - I only need it for 1 (maybe 2) airstones but must be quiet as my living room is only quiet and the sofa is next to the fish tank - I dont want to hear it over and above the TV when watching it.

Any help - greatly appreciated.

I have a couple of elites that are actually very quiet, maybe its damaged?
Other thing is to make sure its not touching anything, they vibrate alot, if you have say solid wood floors or similar maybe thats your problem?

Thanks for your reply germ - i've placed it on carpet, a scarf, TV padded wrapping, blu-tac (as advised by the shop), even shut it in the cupboard under the tank and it's still as noisy as noisy can be - took it back and was quiet in the shop (but then again shops are noisy ain't they) they even replaced it and it's exactly the same - dont know what to do as I want an internal air source but without the noise.

Unless you have very specific requirements, or you simply want to see bubbles, an airpump is not necessary in a regular tank. Quietest airpump is no airpump.

Just want it to add in a bit of a "feature" so bubbles only really. Did have 2 filters in due to a mass production of fry but no longer need and wanted to treat the fish to something for a change.

Make sure the tubing and plug wire are hitting anything thing. My Rena 100 air filter used to hum worse than monk in meditation. I tried everything, then one day i thought id put a valve on the tubing (lets air in but blocks water from backing up) And all of a sudden it went silent. i doubt the valve did much, but the tubing vibrates a lot less, so maybe try moving around the plastic tubing and make sure its not hitting anything.

It worked for me. :good:

Thanks for all your suggestions fellow boardies! :good: Took back the Elite 802 - no problems - and bought a Tetratec APS50 - a lot, LOT better - still the vibration noise but immensly quiet compared to the Elite and the fishies love it!!!!!! :hyper: I knew I could rely on you guys and gals!
