How would I go about extending the intake tube of my power filter? I want to lower the extension tube, as far down as possible.

Isaac

*EDIT*
It is an Aquatech Power Filter(Mini)

Not that long, it's only 3 inches into the water, and I need it to be about 14 inches in.

sorry i ment diamiter of pipe, the easyest way to do it would be to cut it just below the bend and join the two bits together with a lenght of filter pipe, just heat the ends up in hot water to make it easyer to put on. :D

Thanks a million :D
Where can I get the pipe, maybe from Home Depot?

How much to they run for?

Isaac

*EDIT*
Measured the pipe and it was 3/4"

Home Depot carries it, you usually have to buy 10 feet. Hardware stores sell it by the foot, around 50 cents a foot.

I know after all this, this is going to be a stupid question :p

Why is putting the intake tube lower into the aquarium better than having it on top?

Isaac

It will pick up debris from the bottom better. If you extend the intake, & add a small powerhead to the bottom to keep debris from collecting it keeps the tank cleaner.

Most wastes sink to the bottom, so you want to suck up that water to filter. Also, most filters return filtered water to the top so it helps circulate the water thruout the tank.

I have finished the extension tube. I went a step further, and used pvc pipe to make the intake all the way on the other side. Here is a picture of it.
