Popped on the lights this morning to feed all my babes and look into my fry/mother to be tank and orcas got a head AND a tail sticking out of her cooter!!! I turned the lights off again and covered the tank to hopefully recover a few in a couple hours!! Necco looks square as all get out too. Sweet!! But orcas fry will be 4 weeks old come thursday im most certain. So i guess ill just have to wait for the 3 week old fry to get older to see if they were orcas or skokies. Later orca will be moved to the 50 gallon for the first time! All is well in v's platy land! Now off to some pvp in world of warcraft ;)

I have 11 new orca fry :}

But they are kinda hard to count

Thank you :)

Ah too cute! I can't wait until my Genesis gives birth. I think it'll be awhile until she does though. Are you going to name all 11 babies? haha

Good question! No, i will leave that up to the final owner. Im going to keep one from her supposed first litter and donate the rest to my lfs. Ill name the batch tho <3.

Today i look in the marina breeder and i see a half eaten fry. I get him out and notice one is also stuck on the grate where the water spills back into the tank. Fished him out, too. I noticed one yesterday that its head just didnt look quite right. Like its face was just a little more down on its head than it should be. I think that was the one who got eaten its not around today. I also found two more fry swimming about the sorority tank and fished them out.

I must have counted wrong for i have 13 fry right now.

I split them up and put six in the marina breedrr and 7 in the topfin net breeder.

One of the darker fry its tail and fins are fine and perky but he is shaped more stick like and doesnt move around much.

your so lucky, you get fry all the time, ive only had 3 fry in my hole life

Right now im between jobs so i stare at my fish way too much! Which is probably why i ccatch them dropping. :) plus i have java moss, anacharis, and tiny buildings with lots of doors and windows which they swim in and out of for protection.

Ooo the fry look big & healthy, congrats! :D

Good luck with your dark stick fry!
I've actually noticed my "runt" fry are usually darker :eek: I wonder if it's a coincidence.

Maybe they are males? Smaller/showing colors first?

Oh yeah and weak and sickly! Lol jk boys

Here is Orca's second batch 4 days later right before cleaning their box. They are all quite lively except for one of the little darker ones. It seems quite skinny and doesn't much swim off the floor of the breeder.
