Hi,

I planning a 300L (80G) aquarium.
I preferer a open aquarium (ADA style), but I am afraid during winter months, the heater will consume to much energy.
Anyone have any idea, what is the difference in terms of power consumption between a open aquarium to a closed aquarium?

Thanks

Impossible to quantify the difference as there's far too many variables suffice to say that an open topped aquarium will evaporate more and lose heat faster than one with a lid. That will mean more water replacement and more power to maintain temperature.

What do you prefer? Open or Closed aquarium?

You could always get a piece of plastic cut to size and place it over the top at night when it gets colder, store it behind the tank/cabinet till you need it.
