I heard about endler guppies a few months ago after trying guppies. The other day I saw what they looked like in the pet shop... expensive!

Is there a popular type of endlers? By popular I don't mean everyone on earth has it but wants it. I want something special. If people could list a few I would appreciate it.

As they're expensive (and I've had my fair-share of losses), I wanted to start with a pair or two and hopefully watch them breed!!! They're so small I figure I'd need 20ish before they're noticable in the tank but buying that many will break the bank.

Well i have some special short finned guppies, their from Pin tail stock and have lot's of extended tail fin rays in the upper half.

I will also post fish in the UK only

Anything you saw in the LFS was probably a cross between guppy and endler. Only the crosses seem to demand much of a premium. An especially popular one around here is called a tiger endler. I breed wild types and they are definitely not in much demand.

My neighbor gave me a tiger endler guppy and some regular endlers if you recall. The tigers are amzing! The yellow between the stripes changes from yellow to blue! The tail is very interesting, it has 3 natural prongs and are flat at the tip. I have his father but he has a double sword. It's weird that his son has three tips. :hyper:

what kind of prices did you see? My lfs sells endlers for 2.99 per fish..

juss want some perspective.. you dig?

Price is definitely local Hambone. I got my own pure endler stock for very little money but the shipping killed me. If a local shop carried them, I would expect maybe $2 each plus shipping. At a club auction I get, or pay, about $1 for two or three of them. In the UK forget everything. When you are there, even the exchange rate posted in so many places is meaningless. The prices reflect local conditions, not what it might cost to ship fish from place to place in terms that can be related to the nominal exchange rate. What I pay $2 for has no relationship to the UK price for the same item in pounds sterling. For some reason, that I really do not understand, we enjoy prices that are remarkably low compared to UK prices after applying the present exchange rate to the transaction, at least for fish. When I was in the UK last summer I was amazed at the prices of produce in a market on the south side of London. Prices were less than half what I am accustomed to paying here for the same thing. Even as I reflect on that discrepancy, I remember that fish keepers in the UK pay far more for almost everything than I do here in the US. It is not simply a currency exchange issue, I am morally certain that discriminatory laws are also affecting prices in both places.

It really depends on world economics when it comes to price. Millions of people can affect the price of a fish. But when you ship, the fish have to be inexpensive because of the shipping, or no one would by them. As for the fish not being to fill the tank, you could buy a few male endlers and a couple of female feeder guppies and let them fill the tank. The male offspring would look really cool probably.

one of endlers mated with one of my female guppys.. She will be popping in a couple weeks.. I can't wait to see the fry!

A chance guppy endler cross will not likely be an improvement on the crosses that you can buy. The folks that did those crosses probably rejected 100 results for each one they chose to retain.

So I must of got lucky with my tiger endler. I think I might breed my color/tail variation on and produce a new line lol. It even has a little purple in it, rarely see that in a FW fish.

I'm juss looking forward to seeing what they look like..

If you have something worthwhile go ahead and line breed it NeonNeptune. I am encouraged by your description of what you are getting.

The prices seemed to vary. They had some russian endlers (I think that's what they were called) which were black and priced around £12 for a pair. That was the most expensive. Also so some Snakeskinn endlers for £8-9 for a pair I think. There was also a third type but don't remember. I'll head back in a few days and double check what they had a prices. But definitely seemed expensive. The snakeskin did look nice and it's a name I’ve heard before but that also made me think they're common.

Putting supply and demand of endlers in the world market aside for a moment, any more popular endler names? ;)

respeck..

Mebster, Moscow guppies are a nice solid black in a large part of their bodies but nobody here tries to pretend that they have any endler to them at all. They are a guppy strain. Pure and simple.
