Okay, I just checked on him, and he was gasping for air, and he's lost almost all of his color. He's breathing hard, and I just put him under a light since I don't have a heater. I would humanely euthanize him, but I don't have any clove oil and I just can't bring myself to do it. Is there ANYTHING I can do for him? He's been sick ever since I rescued him, but he's a fighter, and I wasn't going to give up on him. PLEASE HELP. :-(

See my newest post.

oh no! i'm so sorry <3 :-( if there are no visible signs of illness, i guess that all you can do is make him comfortable and hope right now. have you tried putting in an airstone or something to increase the amount of oxygen in the tank? *hugs* i hope he'll be okay!

i'd say their is just about nothing u can do but put a little pinch of aquarium salt in there and hope for the best best of luck little buddy :good:

I don't have any airstones or anything.. :(. He's staying at the top of the water trying to breathe. :-( :-( I wish I had some clove oil or something, because I know he's suffering.

baking soda also works, from what i've heard. if you put some in water and then put him in there, that will do the same thing.

I am too much of a coward to euthanise mine, you are doing all you can just cover his tank up so you cant see him and it keeps them calmer....  lol

Also if he's having that much of a problem if you haven't already you'll want to lower his water level.

He died this morning.. :-(. I feel like I've failed him, and my friends are saying "It's just a fish" But he's not just a fish.. He was alot more than a fish, he was family, along with the rest of my bettas.

RIP Cabaret. I hope you know how much I loved you.. :rip: :byebye:

some people just don't understand the feeling... :-(

i am so very sorry for your loss. my fishies and i send our condolences.

but i hope that you realize you did everything you could for him and gave him a great life while he was with you. he was probably the happiest little betta there ever was. you rescued him and gave him a second chance, and i'm sure that he was very grateful for it. you did everything you could. it was just his time to go. there wasn't anything you could have done to have saved him; just making him comfortable was the best you could have ever done. so don't blame yourself. :( *hugs* i hope that you feel better soon.

Aww thank you.
He was such a happy little boy, and I probably would have ended his suffering sooner if I could have. At least he didn't die in that horrible tank he was in at Petsmart.. I blame them for all the damage he had. His water was dirty, his fins jus... :-(, but I am glad that I gave him a nice clean tank for the short time he was with us.

yeah. i work at petsmart, and sometimes the people get a bit lazy with the bettas. :grr: i get so mad. every now and then i go through and find any with finrot and set them up in their own little bowl with some medicine. seems to work well. i'm very fussy about my petsmart bettas. they're all my little babies.

i'm going into work today. they better all be doing well. i've only been gone for two days, but who knows what those idiot coworkers of mine could have done...

anyhow, today we are supposed to have gotten in another shipment of bettas... which is dumb, because we already have way too many as it is!!! i hope to get a little female... and knowing me, i'll probably come home with another male, too lol!

 I wish our Petsmart was that great. Poor little bettas. Ariel was starved to death (at least she acted like it), and Neptune's fins have never grown back fully. Poor little fishies. I did notice the males look much better than the females though.. :/

yeah, i'm the one that runs around yelling at the customers when they stack the bettas directly on top of one another because "THEY CANT GET ENOUGH AIR LIKE THAT!!!! GEEZ!!!" ahem... anyhow. lol. i have two little buddies that are about ready to go back into their containers, as their finrot is gone and they seem to be donig much better. so this way i can replace those guys with another couple of bettas that need to be treated. i feel terrible putting them back into that little itsy bitsy container, though... :-(

maybe i'll just steal a few ten gallons off the shelf and... well, nevermind, i would get in trouble. i get myself in trouble enough as it is. my managers are like "ASHLEY! quit messing with the stupid bettas and go help customers!"

LOL. I feel bad for stacking them now.. :look: I never think. Aww, poor little bettas. If I worked at Petsmart I would probably be taking home every betta and nursing them back to health, then selling them.. :D.
 You could always try ;)
