Strange thing just started happening.  I noticed that I had tiny white particles flowing into my tank from one of my canister filters.  After just a few minutes, the entire tank was covered in free floating particles.  I managed to get the filter off and the other filter seems to be doing a good job of clearing out the particles, so I am working on the other canister right now.

Low and behold, it looks like the filter floss has gone through a blender!

Has anyone ever experienced this before?  I have never seen floss shred like this and certainly not flow out into a tank...  I have extra floss handy, but I am wondering if I should remove all the shredded floss I can, remove all of the floss, or just overlay the new floss onto the old?

What do you suggest?

If the existing floss is coming apart, remove all of it.  It will only clog the filter by which I mean reducing water flow, and it might find its way into the aquarium again.

There will be no bacteria issue doing this.

Byron.
