Elite Tanks

I really REALLY really want a 60ltr tank and have seen some decent 2nd hand ones online. However, sizing up how much I would spend on a 2nd hand tank, then buy a heater, possibly light or filter, I might as well pay £60 - £70 GBP for a new tank with all that already included.

So, I have seen the Elite Style60 Aquarium System (60 ltr), with the following included;

* Sun-glow fluorescent bulb - 15W
* Elite Stingray filter
* Marina Plant Rock
* Nurafin AquaPlus - 30ml
* Nurafin Cycle - 30ml
* Nurafin Max complete flake food - 12g
* Basic Aquarium guide

My LFS is throwing in gravel or sand, for the price of £74 GBP.

Is this worth it? Or is this a type of tank to avoid,I've never had one before.

I had one of these, they arn't bad tanks. The filter is rubbish though, I would have a look around the net for a juwel rekord, you can get a brand new one for £60 from seapets. IMO a much better tank and the filter is loads better and seapets will throw loads infor free.

I've got the Elite 35 and it's not a bad tank at all. I would see whether they would consider changing the filter to a Fluval though as I'm not a fan of the Stingray.

As already mentioned, nothing wrong with the tank, thats the 1st tank I had but I too do not like the stingray filter, I changed mine for a fluval 3+

I went for the elite in the end, they wouldn't change the filter but they gave me 2 plants and 2 kuli loaches for free

I'm gonna purchase a different filter though,as the sting ray seems to have a very strong current to it. Looks like a wave machine

Lol... not to jump on the bandwagon but...

It was my first tank too, the tank and lights are good but I couldn't stand the filter. For how big it is it has very little filtration capacity and isn't very powerful. If you got it I'd replace it with a Fluval 3+ or Fluval U2 filter.

The 'deal' you're being offered isn't that great to be honest. I'd look for something second hand first but if not definitely shop around online... you'd be surprised at some of the deals you can get. With regards to what you're being offered...

* Sun-glow fluorescent bulb - 15W <--- Every tank should come with a light so this isn't anything special
* Elite Stingray filter <--- You would probably want to replace it
* Marina Plant Rock <-- Is it actually a decoration item you want? You can get real rocks for next to nothing not to mention the amount of decorations for sale online
* Nurafin AquaPlus - 30ml <--- tiny little bottle... wont last long and a better and more economical alternative is seachem prime
* Nurafin Cycle - 30ml <--- not going to hurt to use it, but unlikely to do anything so isn't really a 'bonus'
* Nurafin Max complete flake food - 12g <--- 'complete' implies it's suitable for your fish as a staple diet... there are too many different types of fish for this to be true so it's not really a major 'plus' to the deal
* Basic Aquarium guide <-- likely a waste of the paper it was printed on

Gravel/Sand it really depends on colour but if you wanted white sand it's a few quid from argos...

All in all the point I'm trying to get across is that the kit is a full kit and so good for a complete beginner with no one to ask questions too. But seeing as you're on this forum I would recommend second hand and putting together your own kit with bits n pieces bought seperately to give you something that cost the same (possibly even cheaper) and that meets you and your fishes needs better

I'm getting that argos 15kg play sand at the weekend, I wouldn't use the ornaments, got tonnes (and I mean tonnes!) of real plants and cuttings I can use. It seems that my 30ltr is a brilliant growing ground for plants

I've been looking for 2nd hand for 6 odd weeks and I couldn't find anything decent, or they were asking for £40, without a filter, heater etc. I have a full API test kit, so that's not an issue, pretty happy with this tank tbh. I'm getting a 3+ filter over the weekend.

Need to upgrade, 4 months with a small tank, I need to step into the adult aquarium world

6 female bettas
2 Kuli Loaches
4 Amano Shrimo
1 Apple snail (is that what they are called?)

Also, what is left of my red cherry population.........my bettas got peckish the other day

Would I be able to fit in more Kuli Loaches?

I have 6 kuhli loaches in a 48 litre tank, so I would say yes, get some more. They are gregarious and like to be in groups. They're also quite light on the bioload.
