Elastics In Aquariums

I decided I would fasten a bunch of Cabomba to gather with a regular elastic, so I could plant them more easily. It worked, but I just wanted to make sure that it won't cause any problems or harm the fish. Not sure if it could leech poison into the tank...

I've used rubber bands in the tank, as have other aquarists I know. Rubber banding zucchini to a rock is an old trick for feeding plecs.
