OK....Short and sweet. Are they worth the extra money?

Pain in the rear to get set up right and even then they have a habit of stopping working properly. Stick to the normal ones.

The more complicated the less reliability which is why i love their classics

I'll split the middle between those last two and say that I like the Pro because it has more creature comforts than the classic but less to go wrong than the Pro2

And don't go for the thermo versions either! Get a Hydor instead.

Im more fond of external filters instead of the sump kind. Of course, i cant afford anything else, so i cant really judge!

I guess by sump you mean internal or the classic eheim externals?

No, a sump is a second tank which (normally) sits below the display tank and contains the heaters and filter media. It increases water volume and allows the filter to be highly customised and to hold more media than a cannister with the potential for far easier maintenance.
