hi - i got my trigon 350 delivered yesterday and it came with a \Eheilm pro II external filter, this works fine as a head unit but when i plug it on to the main body it doesnt suck the water through? im really stuck can anyone help?

thanks in advance ! x

get a syphon running on the inlet pipe feeding the filter, then run it

once it's sucking in the water it will run fine.

I assume you have primed it? ;)

If it was primed, open it up and check the motor unit, impeller e.t.c for jams/damage. Don't run the unit dry though, this can damage the motor

there is a pressure pump that you compress and it is meant to start the syphon process and then you switch the power on but for some reason it won't syphon

by priming do you mean pressing the big button thing down? it doesnt shuck the water in - but if you take the head unit of and put that in the water it works fine, its like it looses sucktion when you connect it to the main body?

thats a common thing with them, just suck the intake pipe till it's flowing then put it on the canister

im trying but i havnt got a clue how to syphen ! arggggghhh!!!! i did try and it just stopped flowing once i stopped sucking, think its hard because of the thickness of the pipe.

all you need to do is make sure the intake pipe is in the water and end is lower than the water level.

Take the valve off the end and then suck the pipe will water flows over the edge of the tank and down the pipe, you should then stop and it will keep flowing
You need a bucket of course, once free flowing put the valve back on the pipe. Also make sure the pipe from the canister to the fish tank has no water in it.

Place the valve back into the canister and close tightly.
Open the valve now and turn it on.

Good luck

ive just tried that and once i swittch it on it just looses sucktion again : very frustratied :*(

Are any of the seals or the tubes themselves worn? If they are you could be getting air leaking into the system.

Ok u checked all the clips are closed fully.
As their should not return if the intake pipe if full of water, gravity should fill the canister then.

It's also important that their is no water in the pipe from the canister going back to the tank

Also u have the canister bellow the tank?

Right, empty all water out of everything related to the canister, so you can start a fresh.

With the filter itself below the tank, plumb it up fully. It may seem obvious, be check that the inlet pipe is on the inlet fitting, and the outlet pipe on the outlet side. Once plumbed up, your ready to start trying to prime it.

Take the outlet off the back of the tank, check that the taps are open and suck for a few seconds. You should hear the sound of running water while the filter's media bit fills with water. While it's filing, put the outlet pipe back on the tank, and go make a cup of tea (The last be is very important  ) Once it's had a few minuites to fill up, plug it in and off it should go.

Where are you based? If that doen't help, a local could come take a look for you...

Well we did it...we got it working.... then it started leaking very bad form around the top - ive looked on net and it says that there really bad for lealkin? - so im going to go with an internal filter, going to have to get one big enougjh for a trigon 350 - the external filter box is still in the tank so i would just need new basket and pump etc etc.

im in preston lancashire by the way.

i just want my tank set up ! :( im inmpatent lol

if u have some vasoline just runn a bead of that around the O-ring (the rubber on the lid of the pump)

You can get new o-rings from around £12-15 and is a common problem.

I may have a spair around somewhere my self.

Seal rings will only fail on a regular basis if you don't care for them correctly. Apply Vasaline to the seal at every clean out and it will do many years service.

IMO, no internal filter can run a 350l tank satisfactorily. I'd replace the main seal and ensure you keep it well maintained. Eheim's are considered amongst the best exturnals you can buy, so once the poorly cared for part is replaced, it should give you years of service :good:

Hi All thanks for the help , we think it is the seal - it wasnt used for about 6 mnths before we got it and i dont think it was well looked after. we have got the internal up and running - as we know what to do with them, we are keeping the external with the option to run both depending on how many fish etc we have. thanks for all you r help! :)
