I was wondering what the minimum tank size would be for Egyptain Mouth Brooder? Also I was wondering if anyone could share their experinces with keeping them?

I was planning on breeding these fish, probley going to go with 1 or 2 males and 6 or 7 females.

I was planning on breeding these fish, probley going to go with 1 or 2 males and 6 or 7 females.

I used to have these fish in a 20gallon tank with sand and a few real plants and a few caves. They are also very easy to tell apart, the male is alot more colourful, so if i was you id buy 1 male and 2 females, then they will pair off, then take the female back.

They are very easy to breed, the reason i got rid of them. and they are good parents, though they will fight with eachother when they have fry, because the male will still want to breed even though the female is still looking after her last batch of fry, this can cause the mal and female to eat their fry, so id suggest moving the male once they have bred.

I have two of these kept separately, as when they breed the male beats the female who can no longer hold her own. This is why you should keep more females to males, as you've suggested you will.

I'd recommend something like a 30g for 2 males, 6 females, lots of plants, fake or real, to give the females cover when they are holding, unless you plan to remove them?
