While persusing through a book I recently bought with the impending arrival of fry I came accross something which up until I have forgotten to ask about. The book says that mollie fry can be supplementally fed on hard boiled egg yolk crushed in material to a paste and then in turn put into the water for the fry to swim through and eat. Firstly ... assuming this is right what benefits might this give growing fry? Secondly ... has anyone else ever done it?

Yup! I've heard about that many times. It's not my favorite method since I like using crushed flakes which is much easier but hard boiled egg yolk will do. You really hve to mash it into more of a powder than a paste. Thn sprinkle just a tiny bit over the top for the fry. You can swirl it around in the water if you want. I think the egg yolk gives the fry protein if you can't get baby brine shrimp or something like that.

yeah thats true some people use it to feed betta fry.dont know about benefits though

It's high in fat content, which is good for the fry, but it would make an awful mess of your water I'd think. I just use crushed flakes. They do fine on it.

Yeah i'm feeding on crushed flake with a bit of crushed freeze dried daphnia in it but was thinking about giving the little ones a bit more of a varied diet. Cheers for the info guys :good:

yes u can and i have used it to rear bettas as well as said befor.

But it dose polluate the water and if used you need to do more water changes.
