Hi

I have eco-complete in my tank at the moment but I just come across an artical online sayin there was some bad batches that are not pure black? mine aint black its like dark grey with of bits of crushed what I can discribe teracotta pots and shells and volcanic rock etc.

This ok or I got a bad batch?

The "bad batch" still does exactly what it is supposed to, it is only different in appearances. If you don't mind the appearance then all is well as far as you are concerned.

This is mine, also from the "bad batch"; it isn't uniformly black as you can see and there are some pretty large chunks in there too.

I think the 'bad' batch looks better :p more varied!

Bad batch from Eco Complete meant that there was one time that the Eco would cloudy the water to a milky white and it pummels the KH,GH off the roof because of a chemical added.

The batchs right now with the red, black, grey are what they use now to try to save more Eco

you can email them about it

As frozenbarb mentioned the 'bad batches' of eco complete were truly bad.
What you have is something else. I have received it as well and I am using it in one of my tanks.

This different 'look' was explained by Jud McCracken (caribsea representative):

We sourced a new locale of volcanic material, (same minerally speaking), some of it was not all black.
When the new source material started shipping the shipping crew didn't catch the issue until a good amount of it was shipped (initially it looked OK).
Eco Complete Black is supposed to be black.
While this is a "new formulation" in that it was from new source material it was always intended to be all black in color we do not mean to say that multicolored product will be the norm.
I have offered every product complaint on this product a replacement. As long as there is a valid receipt replacement will always be offered. We want consumers to be happy with our products and pride ourselves on making good when we do make a mistake.
If anyone needs any more information on this issue I encourage you to write to me directly and I will go into greater detail. I am especially encouraging those who have purchased product and were not satisfied or those who can not find all black product in their local marketplace and wish to purchase it.
