I recently set up a new tank for Bumble Bee shrimps and Bumble Bee horned snails. I asked if my local branch of Maidenhead Aquatics could get some in for me – no problem, they said.
This is how the prices compare...
Ebay...
6 shrimps plus postage = £17.75
3 snails plus postage = £10.00
LFS...
7 shrimps = £14.00
3 snails = £5.00

Big savings by shopping locally.

I like to go to the LFS so I can see what im getting, my friend and I are going shopping tomorrow for apple snails, daughter went to fish shop today and said the brown and yellow stripe ones were £1.25 each! :good:

she also said they have shrimp for £1.99 each I thought that was cheap.

The thing is when buying off ebay, you can get some things lfs dont have so ebay would be favoured.

lfs sell some things ebay do as well and it works out cheaper just to go to lfs so lfs would be favoured.

The thing is, when buying off ebay, you cant really count postage as its not the item that costs more, its the fact the postage is on top so obviously it seems worse.. you cant count postage on to the cost of the item and think, oh i paid £17.50 for shrimp because the item was £10, the extra cost is the postage which is a service you are paying for.

True, but my LFS were not stocking these items – until I asked them to get me some. They will order anything for regular customers, and with a tankful to choose from, you can pick the larger ones, with a better chance of survival – on-line, in my experience, the shrimps you get are often much smaller than advertised, often no more than hatchlings. With shrimps this is important, as the mortality rate is high during the first few moults...

Im the opposite lol as i look at it like if you buy fish etc what is young, you have them longer lol

LFS - bigger choice, i can see the exact fish im getting, no postage and the risk to the fish in transit is much less.

Plus theres a really cute guy who works there, hehe

i much prefer my lfs however i think i am lucky Wildwoods is my local one, and its excellent for the type of fish i like :)
