Easy Plants

In my modified biorb, i have java fern currently and two other unknown pants.

Most of the plants i get die as they need good lighting.

The ones that do survive get eaten by my gouramis. Can you tell me what plants i can keep with them?

Ones that are easy to keep alive and ones that won't get eaten.

I wouldn't normally suggest this, but have you thought about fake plants?

If you're willing to spend a bit, you can get decent silk plants that look pretty good, far better than the plastic tat you normally see in your LFS.

Not as good as live plants IMO, but they'll look a whole lot better than half-dead, half-eaten ones!

Yeah i know but my lfs sell really crappy fake plants.

java moss is pretty hard to kill...and it doesnt get eaten...at least i've never seen my fish eat it

What does java moss look like?

It's pretty hardy, so might well suit you. (good pick, dcarmor927)

The only issue with it is, you can't really plant it - it's naturally a floating plant. To get it to stay down, you need to anchor it to something, eg some bogwood or a rock, with some thread/fishing line. It also doesn't grow much in height, so you'd need to get creative with whatever you anchor it to.

It's fairly easy to get hold of, both the LFS in my local area sell it. If not, have a look in the buy/sell/swap section of the forum.

yea, i tied mine on to some wood and 3 weeks later it was set, i got mine off ebay...if you cant find it in your LFS (if in the US Petco usually has some, but the quality might be low) i would try ebay, its all over the place there

my gouramis like nesting in my frogbit so i would say thats pretty good
i only have standard lights

Crypts possibly, or moss balls, which can be spread out flat.

anubias nana could work too, they also can be tied down or you cant plant just the roots, keeping the rhizome above the substrate

you would have to use ferts for this one tho

i would recommend Seachem's Flourish

Its like 8 bucks a bottle

It adds Phosphorus Nitrogen and Potassium which most others dont, it really turned some of my plants around when i first started using it so i stand by it now lol
