i'm setting up my new 50gallon tank soon and i want to put one of these guys in there the other stocking will include spanner barbs and pictus catfish. i'm planning this fish to be my center piece. just wanted to check it was suitable for my tank.

Crenicichla notophthalmus is a beautiful little Crenicichla, one of the more peaceful of the group..
Crenicichla compressiceps-Crenicichla regani are just as beautiful....1 male to three females is reccomended in tanks under 4 feet..
I think you will be fine with the stocking you desire...good luck

Quite interested in this thread actually as I fancy a pike for my tank sorry to hijack but does anyone know how they do with other cichlids in the tank? I was thinking of getting either a single Regani, and the other cichlids are in my sig :) Not 100% how it would work as some say they are fine with other cichlids while others are murderous insane fish.

thanks for the response nelly.

i did a bit of research and i am talking about the C. compressiceps variety, and most websites say completly harmless unless the fish can literally swim in its mouth.

yes agreed mate, think you will be fine, only thing could poss happen is picking at pictus wiskers but id imagine not...

WILLS...Id say just stick with what you have already mate, esp if the hrp's are a pair

oh lol sorry forgot to mention im upgrading got the tank just no water in it yet. Its a 65g what do you think to any more in there?
