Drumming

I've got one.It cost just over £200 new, never got lessons and don't have the enthusiazm now.You can have it for £70 :/ .The sound isn't partically good but you can get covers which go around the top of the drum to make it less of a booming sound.

I have a good beginner kit, but it isn't cheap... I have a Pearl Export. It's really nice.

Sadly cheap and good drums do not go hand in hand. My first kit was frankly awful and cost about £300. My second kit (still stashed at my 'rents) cost about £1,500.

Try and buy second hand to save on costs. I am a huge fan of Pearl and Sabien (though Zildjan do good chinese trash cymbals).

My best tip is: Don't scrimp on cymbals. Cheap cymbals ruin the playing experience.

Yup. What I have is:
5 Peice Pearl Export (Black)
Black Hardware
1 Set of Hi-Hats
1 Crash
1 Ride
1 China

(The cymbols are Zildjian)
I actually plan on buying another bass drum, and another bass pedal, so I can do the double kicks. I would buy a double pedal, but when you have to pedals on one drum, it kind of blocks of the sound from the kick before, which is what I don't want.

I own a kit that I haven't played for a few years now. it's a hybrid kit made up of a premier and yamaha setup, using Zildjian cymbals (A custom crash, Z custom 14" hats etc) and I bought it because it was used on an album that went top 40 in japan. The drummer I bought it from was looking to get a new kit on a sponsorship, so I went on to recoup his old kit.

An average drum kit can be transformed by adding decent skins. Mu premier Olympic kit is pretty much bottom of the range, and the skins that came with it were truly awful. But i quickly invested in some Remo Pinstripe skins. The double ply heads naturally damp the sound of the drum stopping it ringing too much, which gives you control but can still be played loud when the need arises :)

I agree, second hand is the way to go for a cheap first kit. Pearl make great kits, as do Tama and Premier. Cymbals, i would go for Zildjan for my complete set if i could afford it, they are truly brilliant. I have a 16" K Custom Dark Crash which is the absolute dogs!

If you can afford it go for a Pearl Export - nice starter kit imo. Then when you get going get some new skins, maybe Evans g2 clear for toms and st dry for the snare. Bass wise you won't go far wrong with Aquarian.

I would stay away from cheap starter cymbals and try and get something mid range. Then you can always upgrade in the future (Zildjian A Custom was my choice - and are fantastic cymbals).

I got a pretty ghetto kit atm, need to get some more heads for it, doesn't sound that bad tbh, but now I'm looking for a decent crash/ride - again not too expensive, anyone got recommendations?

I know this is a little late, but I have a few suggestions. You could go with Zildjian ZXT or ZHT. Paiste makes some good cymbals too. If you look around you might be able to find some used, higher-quality cymbals.

It's worth spending a little more on cymbals, it makes all the difference. Most Zildjian cymbals are great, but think about what kind of sound you want to have. I have Paiste hats, 16" crash ans 20" ride, a Zyn splash, but my favourite cymbal has to be my Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash. Really versatile, from fast crashes to rolls with soft beaters. Maybe a little expensive at around £100 but well worth it.

The cymbals are gonna be complete crap. I had I 'budget kit' once and the cymbals were terrible. The actual drums, however might be decent. Yamahas are generally okay.
