GUYS ANOTHER QUESTION, THE SMALLEST "MOTOR" (I HAD TO BUY THE SMALLEST ONE THE SPRAYING WAS TOO MUCH)FOR MY OXYGEN IS STILL PROPELLING WATER DROPLETS OUT OF WATER SPRAYING THE ROOF OF THE TANK. I NOTICED "MOULD BALLS" ALREADY BEFORE USING THIS - JUST BECAUSE OF CONDENSATION, NOW I´M USING EXTRA OXYGEN AND THE WATER IS COMING OUT OF THE WATER SURFACE ...THE PROBLEM COULD GET WORSE. MY FEELING IS THAT IT IS NOT VERY GOOD FOR THAT TO BE HAPENNING. ANYBODY HAS GOT ANY SIMILLAR PROBLEM/EXPIERIENCE? THANK U LUCC.

You are probably seeing algae because the amounts of moisture not "mold balls"... I had this problem ages ago when I was still using a bubbler... either lower you water, turn off the bubbler, or just wipe it off every water changes,... its really no harm, just a nuisance

Are we talking about an airline with airstone bubbler here? If so, I think the problem could be that you have not adjusted the valve (there should be a little black valve somewhere along the tubing) to lower the air output slightly so that it is not so turbulant in your tank.

I had that problem when I first began using airlines (my tank looked like a cooking pot on fast boil LOL ) until I realised I was able to adjust the flow by twisting the little valve.

Not really...you can adjust the valve just so that you still have a good flow of bubbles that gently break the surface of the water without it looking like a fierce torrent, spurting water over everything. It's not necessary and can be quite stressful to the fish - and to anyone in the room having to listen to a raging stream of bubbles.

Besides, if there is also a good filter with the nozzle output aimed at breaking water surface, then you're doubling things up which helps release any toxic gases in the tank water and adding to the aeration, which is good.

Airstones are not a necessity in an aquarium, anyway, especially if there are live plants in there. A common view is that airstones add no real purpose to the tank (if the filter is doing a good job) other than they look good. I agree somewhat with that. You can see that the air bubbles being released travel directly upwards to the surface so they are not exactly aerating the whole volume of tank water - but I use them to add to the dispersement of chemicals by breaking the water surface (so I use them on the opposite side of the tank to my filter to create a double-wammy effect LOL)

Whether or not you have the valve set to full output or not will also depend on the size of the tank and the volume of water - a large, deep tank will need a stronger output than a smaller, shallower tank. Also, a brand new airstone will have a stronger current than an airstone that is e.g. a couple months old.

The OP is obviously not happy with the situation at present, so my comments are aimed at trying to find a resolution because an aquarium is supposed to bring pleasure not stress (although inevitably it does, especially in the early days, and then we have to do our best to put things right again).

actually, air stones are not necessary in any tank, planted or not. the only time the effect O2 content is when they break the water surface. they are, for the most part, decoration. I have never heard of "dispersing chemicals". though they do replace CO2 with O2, IF they cause enough surface disruption.

quite seriously, cleaning is the answer to this problem.

What biffster said. Even though the lid of my tank is designed to cope with the cndensation and splattering from the air stone i will be buying a condensation hood the next time i go to my lfs.

Is there a valve really? And yes it is an airline,a hose you can bent, yes? I will have to have a look - if that is the case I will b much happier. The thing is my filter keeps sliding down and often doesn't stay in the place to brake the water. And yes I am very stressed out lately about the whole thing. My barbos cereza (punteus titteyas are unwell now - before it was silver dollars. And one of them is swimming head down with the spine curved slightly towards the end of it. The 5 of 8 were breathing at the surface. I don't have test kit - they aks 120 euro for it here and I don't want that kind of money right now. I have bought something to put in a filter to reduce amonia, nitrates, nitrites just to make sure, specialy because I'm going away and will have to put in holliday food (7 days).
Also I was worried there might b maybe some desease in the tank and I can catch it. I definately had small cut on my hand and didn't use gloves. First my silver 2 out of 3 dollars died. Now this - with the punteus!!! But besides the one bent spine I have never seen any skin problem. Although one silver dollar had this massive bruise, but I thought that maybe happend when he jumped out? I have to say that I am worried also about the tuberculoses and that I will have it? Does anybody knows what are the symptomes when humans have it? The truth is my little cut on my hand is not desappering and I have it at least 1 week now - minimaly... I am in real mess right now lucc

Lucc - yes there should be a little black valve attached to your airline. If you don't have one you can buy one very cheaply from your LFS. Just explain to them what it's for and they will show you how it works.

As for your filter slipping down well mine do that sometimes if the suction caps get a bit slimy. If you give the suction caps a good scrub to remove any slime it should help - but if that doesn't then you can always buy new suction caps. again, ask your LFS - they are also cheap to buy.

I'm sure you will get these problems sorted out soon. They are only minor things, Lucc, so try not to worry too much. In the meantime, until you get the airline and filter sorted out, you will have to just keep wiping the droplets off the inside of your hood and lighting regularly to avoid them causing mould growth.

Like I said, I had exactly the same problem but once I figured out how to set the airline flow properly, everything was fine.

If you're worried about that cut on your hand being infected, you should see your GP about it.
