i have had a peice of driftwood in soak for a good 8 or so days now,
my problem is that it is still making the water brown, does anyone know how long this will take to get rid of the tan??????

i change the water in the bucket daily as well as use boiling water every day,

anyone have any ideas, or am i going to end up throwing it lol

hmm... interesting. Idk y your wood is still leaching tannins. I soaked mine in boiling water for two days and pretty much got everything out. I still see a slight tint in the water now, but it pretty much goes away after a water change and isnt really noticeable until a week later when i do another water change. all i can say is keep doing the soaking with the boiling water and if you just get fed up with that, just go ahead and put it in your tank. it won't hurt anything, just until most of the tannins are leeched, your water will prob be a consistant tint of brown

think im gonna soak it till sunday, if no change then im gonna throw it out,

another 15 quid down the drain lol,

just dont like my tank looking like my pot of tea lol

Mine was only a small peice, I soaked it for a week, daily water change, put it in the tank and not one leak. I was amazed.

Ive had a piece in boiling water for 4 weeks and still turns water brown. Just leave it, tannin is good for the water, it will eventualy stop.

That may make it seep more from the insides of the wood? I dont know..

Lol if you wanna waste more money you can mail it to me!!!

I allways soak my wood in water for 4 weeks i never have a problem with tannins.

i change the water to start off with every couple of days and add boiling water. then after about a week to two weeks i change it one a week and then a few days before im planning on adding it i go back to changing the water every couple of days and adding boiling water,

works every time

Ive had driftwood in my tank for about a year, it still turns my water slightly tea coloured.

It is a huge piece tho.

I found a piece in a flowing river ages ago, it's heavy & solid, a good three & a half foot long and nice & narley (not sure if there's such a word but hopefuly your'l know what i mean).

I've had it soaking in my (crystal clear) pond, going to take it out today, put it in the bath, scrub it and soak it in hot water (obviously while the Mrs is out  ) hopefuly it will be ok. It would cost a small fortune if i had to buy it.....not that i'm tight
