I've had fish my whole life..with my parents of course. But now I am on my own and have two tanks one 10 gallon community tank, and one 55gallon African Cichlid Tank.
Well in the 10gallon I noticed red spikes hanging from some of my fish, and come to find out they are the dreaded Camallanus Nematodes. I bought Jungle Parasite food, and tabs...to no avail. I heard Metrodonizole works but I also heard that it can do damage or not work at all. Levamisole (sp?), I thought about trying I heard it works but can kill them as well. My last and possibly best resort I found while doing hours of searching, is Panacur(dog dewormer.) It apparently worked well with no deaths and the worms fell out within 2 hours. Has anyone tried Panacur aka Fenbendazole? Sorry, forgot to say I have a few guppies, a few heteromorpha's, a corey, a clown pleco, a peacock gudgeon(my baby boy), and live plants. Everything is normal testing wise. If no, I will try it out and let people know how it went.

febendazole is the medication of choice for camallanus

If you go with fenbendazole, make sure to dissolve it very well. the medication is barely soluble, and unless you get enough of it into the water, it will not do much. Flubendazole is a better drug, since it is nearly the same chemically, does the same, but better soluble.

Levamisole is effective against cammallanus but fails for some other nematodes, so if you mid-identified the worm, it may do nothing. The other two drugs are wide-spectrum.

You need to treat at least 3 times, one week between treatments, to make sure that the worm does not come back.
