Hi guys! This is my first post but I just got a new dragon goby and had a few questions. I have a 28g tank with a 5" dragon goby, 3 guppies, 2 snails, and 2 dalmation mollies. It is a brackish tank and everyone seems to be doing great but I was wondering about the behavior of my Dragon Goby. He seems to enjoy swimming around the entire tank but has been spending quite a bit of time at the top of the tank. He looks healthy and is eating well but on most of the stuff I've read everyone seems to say they like to lay on the bottom and hide in caves.

I am hoping he is not sick, I have tested all the levels in the water, ammonia is at 0 and pH is 7.1 and the temp is 78 degrees. I haven't been able to measure the salt content as of yet but I follwed the instructions for making a brackish solution.

Any advice on whether or not this is normal would be great! Thank you in advance!

Danielle

Well your dragon goby could possibly be ill because he's not in brackish water, how long has he been in this aquarium? What are your nitrite and nitrate levels?
I don't know how long you can keep dragon gobies in fresh water for...even for a short period of time they are more sensitive in fresh water.

They are sadly brackish but often sold as fresh. You should take it back if you can.

He said it is braskish guys. Read a little bit more throughly next time..

Dragongoby101, get a hydrometer as fast as possible to check the salinity in your tank ASAP. Salt is a very picky thing.

No, he is using aquarium salt, and 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons at that. So it's freshwater.

What sp. are your snails? Chances are that if you have them an the guppies living happily in the 'brackish' water, then its not brackish enough.
I would move the guppies (and snails, depending on sp.) out and check the salinity.
What are you feeding him? Dragon gobies can be hard to feed. They are filter feeders though, so check that the food is very small.

I didn't read to the brackish part because the other animals (snails, guppies) are not brackish as severum boy pointed out. And to make it brackish, you need marine salt, not aquarium salt which I'm assuming is what he's using.

Thanks guys! I set up a freshwater tank for my guppies and my snails, they are mystery snails. I have my Dragon Goby in a brackish tank now with my Dwarf Gourami and my Upside-Down catfish and everyone seems to be doing great!

No, they wont be. If you have a dwarf gourami and upside down catfish in a brackish aquarium either they aren't doing great at all, or your water still isn't actually brackish  .

What salt are you using now and how much?
