Maybe a reduced feeding regime while your away to reduce the amount of waste produced would help

I agree. Get the kids to feed only half as often as you normally do (they'll probably feed too much anyway, most tank-sitters do). It'll reduce the potential waste build up and the fish wont starve on a reduced diet for 16 days, they'll just look forward to you coming home!!

Funny you should say that, ironically the step daughter in charge of feeding has a mild eating disorder and hates all aspects of eating so I suspect the fish will be on a forced diet The step son has a drinking problem, the problem being it's my beer he drinks

No I didn't find him a rehome so I decided to cull him............................... ONLY KIDDIN!I prefered to leave his daughters a little cramped until I return........cant get my head around the inbreeding thing
