Dont Underestimate A Fish's 'aweing' Potential

Just a little thing i noticed even more so the other day....

So my 65 gallon is almost done with its cycle so i added some of the white cloud minnows to my 65g that i nursed from their skimpy, skinny, and close to death state when they were sold as feeders. I also got my new light! but that's besides the point. Anyways so i go to sit in my chair that is n front of the tank to take a look and see how their doing. My oh my how entertaining the easiest and cheapest fish out there can be, and here i was thinking community tanks with swords and such live-bearers and other common species were boring! I mean these white clouds started to color up immensely in the new tank, and the males even started the females and when the got close enough they would stand still flex their body and flash the females with their bright colored silvery stripe and blood red fins (breeding behavior i suppose)! All in all just cool realizing not everything in my tank needs to be some sort of cool oddball

i third that motion at first i had all odd fish .. big, small, pink, blue, funny looking ect .... then i decided to change plans and bought 8 guppies (common type i think) and and now i can honestly say that some of them are the most entertaining beautiful fish i have ever seen ... now i'm having a colorful guppy community ... just as soon as i track down a nice pair of blue Moscow which is proving tough

My dads "community tank" is probably the source of my anti community fish as his tank has always been.....less than the average? lol and he wont let me touch it to get it going better either...

yes, but there is always the one with the strength to show me he's mine. They look sickly at first, but within a week, they are gorgeous bettas.

They always color up nicely don't they? Unless they're in a bowl. Sigh*

My 3 fish keeping friends have pretty bad setups. The first has 3 bettas each with their own .5 gallon bowl. He also keeps a platy with one of them.
My second is way overstocked- 10 gallon: common pleco clown loach 5 cherry barbs 2 cardinal tetras. I had to tell him his setup was just a piece of #105### and he told me it wasn't.
3rd friend not too bad but he insists on putting 4 puffers in a community tank. 2 dwarf and 2 other more aggressive species of puffer.

I suggested that the 1st get at least a 2.5 gallon for each betta and he told me that's a waste of money. I suggested the 2nd rehome the clown and pleco and then up the cardinals to 5 and he told me I was dumb and his tank was fine (he takes things very offensively)
Then I told the 3rd the puffers would eat and nip his other fish and he keeps insisting they won't.

Yikes! Especially the guy trying to keep multiple types of puffers like the ones you said! I hope he doesnt have fw puffers with figure 8's or GSP!

This is the difference between "fish havers" and "fish keepers" my friend. The have'ers just grab a fish box and bung some fishies in it. The keepers cycle the tank, decorate it suitably, get teh water just right and then carefully choose their stock.

Some people would buy a tiger and wonder why their pet chicken disappeared

Hi. Erm I just googled those Blue Moscows coz I had a feeling about something but wanted to check......I think my LFS has them! If it's not them then they look very similar. They've had them quite a while. I think it's a bit of way for you though, I'm in East Sussex. PM me if you want thier phone number or anything though

haha thanks for the thought but i think 218m is just a little bit too far to track a pair of lfs Moscow down
shame we don't deliver bumpers down that way either due to the toll charges ect or it might have been worth a look

I've got guppies, cories and cardinals, and today I just sat watching my tank in complete awe of how beautiful it was. Each different species is so individual and distinct, they are beautiful. When I was cycling I spent a lot of time researching different species of fish, liking some and not liking others, but when I went to the LFS to check out what they had I loved them all. Even the ones I didn't like from what I saw online were so beautiful in the flesh.

Thats an awesome thing though. You don't need a bunch of expensive fancy fish for a great fishtank. My favorite tank is my livebearer community at the moment. I have added so many types of plays that its very colorful and active. Not saying to don't like my cichlids, (my jewel is my favorite fish) but the livebearer community is by far the most colorful at the moment.
