Done The Deed!

Finally done the deed! I am now fully sand!

It looks sooooo much better I can't describe it. I washed it for about 30 mins so the water only went a bit cloudy. I did a water change and now it's crystal clear.

Forgive a newbie butting in.
I read a lot about people changing over to sand.
I know certain species prefer it, but what are the main benefits?
At the moment, I just have few guppies with a gravel substrate.
Is sand easier to keep clean?

Sand is better IMO for these reasons:

(1) It looks way better, no question
(2) Bottom dwelling fish will be more comfortable on it because it is softer
(3) No building of gunk in between and under gravel (dirt stays on top of the sand)

If you have enough water movement, the dirt doesn't sit on the sand, it constantly moves around until the filter picks it up. I put sand in my newer tank and now I trying to find the time and patience to change my 75 gallon over to sand.

The no gunk value sounds good to me, it does tend to get trapped in gravel & looks ugly.
I'd want a dark sand, is it easy to get hold of?

Yeah, I use the Caribsea Tahitian Moon, which looks the same as this. It's perfect black.

Yay for sand!! I just weighed over to sand in one of my tanks. It looks so much better and is easy to keep clean because you can see where all the junk is and my Betta loves resting on the sand

I did a change over too & I must say I'm annoyed I didn't do it before. So easy to keep clean and looks great
