Does Water Soak Underneath The Braces?

If you are seeing water on the outside of the tank, you need to find where it is coming from. The most obvious would be a seal leak or a crack in the glass. The most common is not obvious. The most common reason is a dirty hang on back filter that has the water level in it rising just enough to run over the side of the filter very slowly and then run down the back of the tank. Check water levels in the HOB filter and if it is close to the top, do whatever cleaning is needed, maybe even a media change, to get the water level back down well below the top of the plastic case. I have sometimes found that I have tried to put too much media into a HOB filter and the next thing you know my tank was emptying itself through the HOB filter water level. An even trickier one to find is similar. A filter that works like a HOB but hangs inside the tank will fill enough to start making water contact with the hood of the tank. The water will then run across the tank on the bottom surface of the hood and ease down the other side of the tank. That leak took me a half hour to find and stop. I had set up the filter with it mounted a little too high and the water returning to the tank sometimes made contact with the lid.
