Does Maracyn 1 & 2 Kill Beneficial Bacteria?

Wondering b/c I might have to treat our 28gal tank.
I suspect that a bacterial infection may be spreading in the tank.

Just need to know either way if the maracyn 1/2 will kill the beneficial bacteria or not, so I can prepare an extra bag in another tank for this one once medicating is through.

I've used the meds before in smaller tanks and never had a problem, but I just need to find out either way so I can prepare the extra media if I have to.

It knocks water stats but don't think it wipes the benefical bacteria out in the filter completely.
I would ask in tropical discussion as more members go over there.

In my experience you'll likely have no problems at all, but at worst I'd say it could cause a mini cycle.

Hmm... well we went out and got some more meds. Gonna wait til tomorrow to see if it's gonna be needed or not. MIGHT not, but with the way the fish were looking and acting, I may just use it anyway to be safe and yeah... guess I'll see if it causes the BB to die or not.

I've used both without a problem. It might muck with your water stats, depending on how mature the tanks is - I did a big water change with each dose to control it, and after the run was finished my readings were back to normal within a day.
