From the little i have read it depends on the species of snails you are trying to kill. It might work on some but not on others, for example trapdoor snails close the hatch to any harmful toxins and therefore can survive a treatment.
Sorry it doesnt really answer your question but i think it dependant on what exactley you are trying to kill.
