My PH has skyrocketed and I can't figure out why. I added quite a bit of salt to the aquarium 5 days ago and was wondering if that might be the reason.

if you used mineral salts then it might have raised the PH. Likewise, rock salt or swimming pool salt will often raise the PH.
Your tap water might have changed and now have a higher PH.
If you added any shells, limestone or coral to the tank then that would also raise the PH.

thanks guys. It was sea salt (non iodized)

Depends on the type of salt. Marine salts will potentially raise the pH quite a lot. "Aquarium salt" which is primarily NaCl (same as in table salt) will not raise pH.

Off the top of my head, it shouldn't.

The term "salt" means the balanced state of a mixture of alkanines and acids

No, it's not always true.
