Does A Fully Cycled Tank Affect Fish Behaviour?

Hey guys,
Im a week into cycling my tank with 12 neons. With daily 25% water changes but they seem to be swimming against the glass alot as seen in the video:

40% water change maybe, is there to much ammonia?

Personaly wouldn't have gone for neons straight away as others will tell you they need a mature tank really, but I would up the water changes and grab an API test kit as it's not jus ammonia you need to keep an eye on

Ok will do but will there behaviour change when its more mature? And how long will it take another few weeks?

Neons should never be added to a tank less than 6 months old - be prepared to lose them. What are your water stats? If your readings are high 25% water changes daily wont be enough. It will take anything between 6-8 weeks to cycle and during that time you will need to make large water changes every day.

It could be that they're looking for a way out. If you have no actual reading for the ammonia and have added 12 neons into a 65l tank then I'd expect that your ammonia is unbelievably high.

I'd suggest a minimum of two 90% water changes.

A good kit to buy would be the API Master Test Kit.

Oh and to answer your original question, no neons shouldn't act like that normally.

Thanks for the ''Frightening'' news guys lol, if i keep up my daily water changes is there a possibility they all might survive?

There is always a possibility they may all survive. And you should do maintenace accordingly.

However the liklihood is that they wont all survive. Neons often don't do well in new fully cycled tanks... nevermind in a new tank whilst cycling! Plus 12 neons is a ridiculously large amount of fish to cycle a 65l with.

Like I said, maintain it in the sense of trying to get them all through. But don't expect them too.

And sorry if it's 'frightening' lol. But if you choose a fish-in cycle, then this is the only advice we can give. Also check out the link in my signature that will help guide you through the process. It may be worth starting a new thread aswell for you to put your daily (or twice daily) ammonia, nitrite and nitrate results in. That way you can track your progress and get extra advice as and when you need it.

Great help thanks, i read the cycling topic and was very useful, i would of done a fishless cycle but i had these fish in another thank with no thermometer so i had to put them in. I will try my best and doing daily water changes and will probably buy a API MTK. And is 65 litre's big enough for 12 neons?

65l is plenty big enough for 12 neons, you still have room to spare for when it's cycled . It's just alot of fish to do a fish-in cycle with in a 65l tank. Much harder work on you, and ultimately much harder on the fish.
