my friends and family think i am crazy and it has taken some time to get my wife on side. She is now a little more supportive than before but she still gives me those funny looks when i say that i am getting some more fish, equipment or plants etc LOL oh well
My fiance thinks im obsessed with fish keeping and doesn't help me out with anything to do with it but he loves my largest common plec to bits and is always taking pictures of it doing stuff . My closet fish friend who i introduced to the fish keeping hobby thinks fish are great but he is going to uni in a couple of months time and is having to rehome all his fish- my brother also likes fish but he rarely gets the chance to visit me but he loves putting his hand in my main tank and letting my mollys nibble his hand and he thinks my plecs are realy funny.
Can't realy speak for the rest of my family as they rarely ever get the chance to visit me and see my fish but they think i have too many tanks none the less.
yeah... my parents like the fish but don't really "get it". i think my dad nearly had a heart attack when he first saw my 60g; they and everybody else think its "really huge".
my boyfriend mostly just tolerates it... but he gets really quiet everytime i talk about future upgrades or stock changes. he doesn't approve of the kind of money it costs, but he doesn't say much since he plays World of Warcraft and Magic (neither of those cheaper or less addictive than fish).
the only one in my family that supports me the most is my dad he has to take me to the pet shops so i can get stuff for my fish but when i say i want to get a new fish he says the exact same thing as my mum 'your wasting your money'.
but even when he thinks im not looking he always looks at all the different types of fish they have in the pet store.
hes taking me to maidenhead aquatics to get a betta tomorrow .
My closest understanding fish friend these days is my friend's 13 year old son I go round to visit her and end up sitting talking to him ad nauseum about fish, while his mum just sits there and shakes her head We even speak on the phone. My family just think I'm nuts, except for my brother, who is an ex fishkeeper and understands perfectly - the obsession to get "just one more tank"
They think I should spend my money on things like furniture, food, cloths, and other stuff that I already have. So no they dont support it. But they do enjoy having a pond with my goldies and koi in it
My mother thinks I am too old for fish tanks and is waiting for me to "grow out of it". My father says if I have spare money I should be investing it. The BF said a long time ago "no more tanks" and peeps at work joke about cooking and eating my fish
The BF loves my RTBS though, he gets amused when he sees it swim upside down (which it does a lot). He was also pretty excited last night when my yellow labs were mouth fighting. When we are eating dinner and the loaches start clicking he talks to them
HAH my wife supports my new addiction but like someone else said i still get those Crazy looks when i leave the house because she pretty much knows somethins up. i recenlty started and it was for my 4yr old but ive since took it over
its only been about 5mos or so but im now at a 29GAL. started at 10 then 18 now 29 so u can imagine the looks i get
but me
My BF thought I was nuts when I got my 55 gallon, but then he got me a great deal (free) on a used 75 gallon tank. He thought I'd be content with the 2 tanks and doesn't understand why I still have all my 10's and 20 gallon tanks. Little does he know what I've got planned for the 8 foot section of wall space left in the living room!
