I was just wondering if you have ever heard of or if you think that angelfish could be hand fed? I got close to hand feeding one of my angels, but I wanted to know if anyone thought if was possible

I have a fully grown male I can feed by hand. He was fully grown when I got him. The only time I can't is when he has spawned with his mate.

yeah mine that I almost fed is only a little bit bigger than a quarter sized angelfish, so I dont think he would go for me hand fedding him. Who knows maybe he would take some frozen food from my hand

Sure you can. As they get older, especially after they pair up, they are a little more wary. A tank full of juvies will nibble your hand, arm, anything you put in the tank, food or not.

This makes me think of something kind of cool, I'll try it tomorrow, since I fed all the tanks already. I've got a 55 with a group of decent size juvies. I'm going to hold some flakes in my fist, submerge it, & watch the feeding frenzy.

you can hand feed just about any fish. some of them i wouldnt try it with but theyll probly eat out of your hand

yeah I will try it again tomorrow too only one of mine will come close though, I have platys that I can hand feed. Hand feeding fish is awesome :hyper: !!

very. i dont feed my bichir by hand because hes getting big enough to latch on to some fingers. i also dont feed my pictus's or raphael by hand becuase they have teeth and my raphael doesnt have good enough site to see where the food stops and the had begins.

yeah I also have pictus catfish, but they would never come anywhere near my hands

I'm talking to my son, he wants to try the fist o' flakes thing tomorrow, I'll post some pics if they turn out.

mine are funny little guys. theyll come up to teh top of teh tank and eat flake food

what is the fist o' flakes? If that means putting your fist in the tank with the flake food in it? Right now I am trying to think of something about how to hand feed the angelfish and thought of that idea, its really hard with them for me. But with my platys it is very easy I dont even have to have food in my hand I can just put the tip of my finget in the tank and they will come and nibble on it, even though I havent tried it with food in my hands I will have to try it tomorrow.

I think I might have to try this with my bettas. I have one who I know will do it...his favorite game during water changes is to try to nip my hand. I'm sure my tiger barbs would also do it, I'm just a little afraid to stick my hand in with 6 tiger barbs durring their feeding frenzy, plus they are also beginning to play the nip my hand durring water changes game. :fun:

oh yeah I remember awhile ago a couple years back my father had an oscar about 4-5 inches long. Everytime we opened the tank hood and he saw us about to put in the food he couldnt wait so he would just jump and bite us. It didnt hurt though usually he would jump and hang on my thumbs for about 1 second then he would let go. Unfortunatly while we were gonesomehow he jump out and we found him lying on the ground dead :byebye: .
