family perhaps, friends and neighbours ...NO!
I was away for a week and had my neighbour feed them. I came back and my 2 Angels were dead. Months later i was away for 5 days and had family feed them and no problems.

I voted def no!! i found out recently that while i was at work, my little bro has been feeding them like crazy. i almost killed him when i found out. lol. i had to sit down and have a LONG convo about that. i was wondering why my tank was so filthy all the time.

p.s. no little bros were harmed in the making of this post!!

Heck no, my bettas are happier if they're not fed at all while I'm away. I can only imagine the things that would happen to them if I allowed my family to feed them in my stead.

HOWEVER, since I do have two bettas, and they are fed standard pellets, I was debating a 'plan' for my next extended trip.

Day-by-day pill boxes, filled with appropriate amounts of pellets. M-Sun, each little compartment with exactly the correct number of pellets. All they'd have to do is come in, pop open the corresponding day, and tip it into the tank. One day-by-day pill box for each betta. Who knows, it could work.

Families are good for these kind of things.
They are lovely for trips..... I had my fish go on a diet for 4 days once...Is that unhealthy?

if they don't beat each other up from hunger, they'll be fine. seems like everything i own is a fin-nipper  so i try not to let them get too hungry... my stupid betta ate his own tail when i was gone for 3 days (two missed feedings)! :<

Now that's a good idea. It's pure genious, Soritan. They sell the really complex ones too for like a month at a time. You could even cater it to each betta. Hmmmm. I will investigate this further. Thanks for the idea, Soritan! It's perfect for people who don't know how to feed fish.

The only living human being i would trust to my fish is my cousin Riley.
If anyone elso does it, I will return to dead fish, such as that one time that my elephant nose, who was so confident that he would come out to see me in broad daylight, died because someone thought his feeding routine was "not important" :grr:....... Damn, that makes me mad when people do that. It always happens. :grr: :grr: rrrgh....

I'd trust my mother to look after my fish, maybe, but definitely not my father. He feeds my oscar sometimes just because he likes to watch him eat, and always overfeeds, even when I tell him the fish has already eaten and to only give him about 3 pellets
"But he eats it!" is all my dad can say. Haha, yeah, he'd eat until he exploded if you'd let him!

Anyway, next time I'm away from home for a long period of time I'm going to buy some of those pill cases that have a compartment for each day of the week and put the exact amount of food they need each day in them. Even a complete idiot should be able to figure that one out :)

My kids have managed to feed the fish with no problem, they're 24, 23, & 16. My wife feeds angel fry bbs when I get stuck working late. Half my friends are fishkeepers & breeders, they just might do a better job than me!

I've started a trend!

...I hope that wasn't my 15 minutes. I was hoping mine would involve magazines.

I do the pillboxes. The friend who fed them in the summer is a fishkeeper herself and would have the sense to keep to the portions. (Otherwise you can always hide the rest of the food). I measure out the portions when my children are feeding too. My family all live in Sweden- bit far to come...

when i go away my brother in law looks after my fish as it was his fault we ended up with them in the first place as he has kept fish for years and got my boyf hooked and then the addiction spreaded to me lol.

i feel totally at ease letting him look after them as i see how he treats his own so no problems there, and i think he would be insulted if i tried to pay him, so i just bring him a pressie back from wherever i have been.

I would trust most of my friends and family, but I wouldn't pay them for doing it, but I may buy them a thank-you present like some chocolates for doing it if I was away for more than a few days. :)

The family and friends I would ,and do, trust to feed my fish are fishkeepers themselves. :p

I got my brother to feed when i went on holiday for a week. although there was nothing much too it for him.

i set of the food out in bags for each tank so all he had to do was defrost and feed accordingly.

if i've got to let any 1 else feed my fish its only my hubby thats allowed. kids keep trying to do it & they over feed them, they look at me gone out when i walk in the room & say who fed the fish as they can't figure out how i knew. something to do with loads of food flowing about in the tank :grr: :grr: so they've now been told i will cut their fingers of if they keep doing this lol :D
