Hi All,

Just coming to the end of a fishless cycle, last week decided to add some plants from a LFS - This morning I have spotted some snails in the tank. Should I be worried and do I need to get rid of them. At present nothing in the tank apart from plants, ornanments and wood. So far I've seen about 5 of them. They are very tiny at present so difficult to photgraph. I Have managed to remove 1 and is in a cup with a few grains of sand, others are hanging round the airline in tank.

They look like common pond snails, or bladder snails. They are harmless, but can repopulate very fast.

They will reproduce very fast if you overfeed or do not keep up with maintenance. If you want them gone completely get an assassin snail. They will take care of the pond snail and most the bladder snails as well (l think not sure about the bladder).

If you don’t wish to get an assassin snail, then you can reduce feeding, but I find that if I want to get rid of snail, you feed more at night. That way all of the snails come to you, and then you can easily pick them out. Some people setup “traps” for them, but I like the old fashion way. :)

Regardless of your feeding schedule, they will reproduce quickly...snails are scavengers, they don't need fish food to thrive...I'd get rid of them ASAP
