It appears both my honey gouramis are male and at 6 gallons my quaranteen tank is not big enough for 2 males it seems as they carn't get enough teritory each despite now having spent £8 on plants to split them up

1 now lives behind the filter and is chased back there if he ventures out.

So I am thinking of moving him into a 8L tank with filter, 1 plant and a small bridge ornament. Here he can finish off quaranteen before being placed in the 125L tank about 3 days before the bully.

Would this be ok?

It sounds like it should work to me. I don't know how they will do when they are both in the 125l though.

Hey i have 4 male Honey gouramis in a 20 gallon tank and they are not at all aggressive towards each other.Mine is a densely planted tank with caves for hiding i also have 4 yo yo loaches.
honey gouramis should be kept in groups.Anyway with a densely planted tank i think 2 would be fine.In the end i think its the personality of your fish that decides........and yes separate them for now.

Probably the problem is that you only have two.In larger groups, aggression is spread, like in angel fish, you're always recommended to keep either one,a sexed pair,or a group of at least six.
I have 6 honeys in a 2 foot tank,5 of which are males, and there is no aggression.
I'd be tempted to get a few more if they are going into a 125l tank, obviously your tanks at the moment are too small for any more, but once these guys have been quarentined and are in the big tank, you could get another 3 or 4 and start the quarentine process for them.

When you have a small tank with a lot of gouramis then you have the same situation as the fish shops that sell them. The reason they dont fight is because there is not enough room for each of them to set up their own territory to guard.
